All these advantages are becoming more urgent by the day, as the European Union is introducing new requirements that will make it more difficult for citizens of other countries to receive a Schengen visa and visit the EU.
The process of issuing a French residency to citizens of third countries is governed by the French Code on the entry and stay of aliens and the rights of refugees (Code de l’entrée et du séjour des étrangers et du droit d’asile).
The residency program for affluent individuals is governed by Art. R-313-6 of this Code. It provides for citizens of a third countries to apply for a French residency as an affluent individual if they have a French address; they are capable of proving that they are financially self-sufficient and do not require state support (i.e. they hold their own funds in a French bank account and receive a continual income from outside France); they do not have a criminal records; and they have submitted the necessary documents.
This type of residency permit is issued to the main applicant, as well as members of his/her family that are financially provided for by the main applicant, and for a period of 1 year with the possibility of extending it further.
