How to get residence permit in Portugal?

Living in the European Union through obtaining the residence permit of Portugal by investment is one of the most popular solutions. Portugal offers different investment and business options to attract thousands of new residents per year.

The Portuguese Golden Visa or officially ARI - Autorização de Residência para Atividade de Investimento (Residence Permit for Investment Activity) is undoubtedly one of the most affordable, fast and straightforward ways to become a resident, later permanent resident and citizen of the European Union.

This Portugal residency scheme allows investors to entry, live and work in Portugal. The physical residency requirement is minimal. In the first year of the program, the resident must stay only seven days in Portugal and two weeks in each following years. They can move in the Schengen zone, without entry visas. Moreover, the resident can bring his family members in Portugal through a simple family reunification process. After the first years, the resident can apply for the permanent resident status and later for the citizenship (Lei n.º37/81, de 3 Outubro)

How to apply for the Portugal residency?

The ARI or Portuguese Golden Visa program offers different investment solutions for the High Net Worth Individual (HNWI) applicants from third countries. EU citizens can't participate in these schemes.

Who can get Portugal residence permit through investment?

- The primary applicant (main investor)
- Spouse
- Children under the age of 18
- Dependent children over the age of 18, who are students.

Perhaps the most popular investment option for the investors is to purchase real estate(s) for 350,000 euros. However, the qualifying real estates for this decreased amount must have been built more than 30 years ago or must be in an urban rehabilitation area.

It is not a coincidence that the real estate option is so popular. The calculation is based on the total value of your real estate. Another beneficial issue is that you can pay for the property after receiving the first, temporary residence permit. Moreover, you don't have to live in Portugal to maintain your resident status. So, you can rent the real estate, and it is one of the most profitable activities in the EU Member State because of the boom in the tourism industry.

There are other solutions, as capital transfer, or creation of jobs. Moreover, investing in cultural activities or movies made in Portugal can also qualify for the residency program. If you want to set up a free consultation for our personalised offers and quotes, click on the button below.
